Power In Unity Community Development, Inc. is a non-profit organization. Founded in 2016 with a mission to serve those that are often overlooked in our community, Power In Unity Community Development, Inc. has been an outreach organization that leads by example; helping those in need and exemplifying unity in the community. Well known and respected throughout the Charlotte Mecklenburg region for service through outreach and assistance programs, Power In Unity Community Development, Inc. places emphasis on communal viability by identifying deficiencies and providing the resources needed to negate the disparity.
Travis Brown
Executive Director
Born in Winston-Salem, NC, Travis Brown relocated to Charlotte, NC as a young adult where he graduated from college, soon got married to Alecia Brown and started a family. In 2010, Travis Brown and Steven Hester co-founded a monthly musical called 1st Friday Praise Fest, which focused on bringing local and national recording artists to the urban Charlotte community. The musicals quickly evolved into a platform to help those who were going through tough times. Over the course of the musicals’ almost 10-year run, they were able to help countless families with housing, groceries, and other necessities. In 2016, Travis Brown established the non-profit organization, Power In Unity Community Development, Inc. that has since consistently assisted countless families annually.

Dr. Deonte Tyson
Operations Executive
Alexandria Espy serves as the Executive Administrator for Power In Unity Community Development and works to prepare administrative reports, documents, and ensures the efficient and smooth operation of our outreach events. In addition to serving with PIU, she is also an active member of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated where she serves on the Executive Committee. Alex is a 2011 graduate of Miami University of Ohio and works as Payroll Coordinator for a grocery retail company.
You can usually find Alex somewhere snacking or on the dance floor. We are excited to have Alex on our team!
Dr. Deonte Tyson was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. Upon graduating from high school, he attended The Ohio State University. After graduating he moved back to Cincinnati and married Tiffany Tyson. Deonte and his family relocated to Charlotte in 2009 for him to pursue his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. From a young age, Deonte has had a passion for community service, being involved in several volunteer organizations and always giving of his time to help those less fortunate. Dr. Tyson begin working with Power in Unity Community Development in 2017 and has been active in the organization since that time.
As a Community Liaison, Tiffany Tyson operates as an executive board member with Power in Unity with a focus on serving as a human link between Power in Unity and the people we serve.
As a goal-oriented Communications major, Tiffany has used her skills and over 15 years of experience in education to effectively build trust with the local community. While living in Charlotte, NC for over 10 years, Tiffany has embraced the art community learning more about her creative mind; from singing, dancing, painting, drawing and writing, she has found opportunity to grow and give back to the community on her own. During her leisure time she volunteers as a Art advisor for inner city youth.
Possessing a strong background in community outreach, Tiffany is ready and willing to be the best she can with Power in Unity Community Development, Inc.
